Nagpur Declares Public Health Emergency Amid Surge in Chikungunya and Dengue Cases
The chikungunya outbreak has escalated significantly, with a test positivity rate exceeding 20%. Daily case numbers surged to 10 new cases on both August 7 and 8, placing considerable strain on the city’s healthcare system. Dengue cases are also rising, with 15 cases reported this month alone, averaging two new cases per day. This is a notable increase from July, which had only 30 cases. Medical experts caution that the true number of infections may be higher than reported, as many cases may not be officially documented.
